    Situation

Poverty and inequalities exacerbated by COVID19. 1.7m children in the UK are estimated to be living in households with debt problems. They are influenced by their parents’ attitudes towards debt and at greater risk of taking on debt. Financial education in schools the UK is “patchy and inconsistent”, with over 66% of secondary schools not required to include it in the curriculum. Young people (16-24yrs) claiming unemployment related benefits has increased by 120% in one year from January 2020.

    Solution

We will combat the problems by equipping circa 1,000 young people with confidence, knowledge and tools for financial resilience and sound decision making. Over the next three years, we will deliver at least 8 financial management/entrepreneurship workshops per year, aimed at young people from London’s most deprived communities. Also, we will create engaging financial education resources, co-created and delivered with young people, on youth focused social media platforms.
